An Interview with Chanse Lowell, Author of "Seducing Anne"

Author Chanse Lowell has blended history, BDSM, and sci-fi in her novel Seducing Anne. She sat down with Lissa Bryan, who wrote about Anne from a more traditional perspective, for a chat about the challenges of combining these genres.

.¸¸•.¸¸.•´¯`• (¯`•♔•´¯)•´¯`•.¸¸.•.¸¸.

Lissa: First and foremost, why Anne Boleyn? What led you to your interest in this particular historical figure as the heroine of your SHROAG novel?

Chanse: I’ve been fascinated with Anne Boleyn for my entire adulthood, mostly because I’m a diehard romantic, and there is no other romantic story in history that speaks to me the way Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn does. They had a very intense, passionate relationship that was explosive, and because of that, it’s probably why it didn’t last long once they married. She wasn’t afraid to stand up to him and argue, when no one else would.

Lissa: She must have been incredibly charming to find that balance. Henry hated being thwarted, yet this woman managed to tell him “no” yet avoid his anger. She wasn’t traditionally beautiful, so it had to be her personal charm, intellect and grace that held his attention for so long.

Chanse: You’re exactly right. She was the exact opposite of what was considered beautiful in the Tudor court. They looked for milky white skin, blonde or red hair, blue eyes. Most of Henry VIII’s wives fit that description, including Catherine of Aragon. Most people think because she was from Spain she had an olive complexion and dark hair and eyes, but Catherine was a redhead, with pale skin and blue eyes. Anne was the exact opposite—long dark hair, black eyes, olive complexion and thin and tall. Most women of that age were fairly plump, or voluptuous as I like to call it since I fit in that category.

I’m sure Anne caught Henry’s attention at first simply because she looked so different and stood out, but yes, ultimately, it was her charm and intellect that held his favor and attention for so long. And because he was enamored of her, she was able to find ways to say no and stand her ground.

That’s the stuff true romance is built off of—strong character, wit, charm, integrity and passion. She had it all.

It’s the romance of the ages to me because who else waited 7 years for a woman, being completely celibate during that time, then took on the Church of Rome? That was next to impossible, since the Catholic Church in those days was actually the supreme power in the land, not the king. On top of all that, he then created his own religion. He almost destroyed his country to have her. If that’s not a deep love, then I don’t know what is.
Lissa: You mentioned on your blog that viewers of the Tudors television series sometimes felt like they wanted to save Anne. I know when I was writing my book, I had the same temptation, because I would have loved to write a happy ending for her. Did you form an emotional attachment to Anne?

Chanse: Very much so. I identify with her in so many ways, because she’s passionate, intelligent, strong and resilient. I also see her as an alpha submissive, so I feel very attached to her, especially since that’s who I am in the BDSM lifestyle. I think she was very submissive to her husband, yet she had such a strong moral character she couldn’t ever let injustices happen while she stood by, so that’s when she would stand up and say something. I believe she knew when to speak up and when to hold her tongue. The sad part is that in the very end she lost that and lost her way. It was her own mouth that got her in trouble and sealed her fate. But at that point, she was depressed and had lost hope, feeling like a failure after miscarrying twice and knowing very well her duty was to provide a male heir. What woman in her day wouldn’t be crushed after promising this man for 7 years she would absolutely give him a son since Catherine, his first wife, failed at that? And here she was, failing at it, too. It would be devastating, so because of that, she lost faith and acted out.

Lissa: BDSM is an interesting topic to explore in the context of the Tudor era, when women were expected to be submissive to men, and physical discipline of one’s spouse was considered to be spiritually beneficial. How does your male lead feel that he fits in with the culture of the era?

Chanse: I wrote Guy Moore as a Dom, trained and experienced enough he could mentor and teach other SHROAG agents how to be one as well. He has a different mindset than most of the other agents who take the easy way out. He wants to explore the women he has to bed. He wants to takes his time to know them, learn what turns them on so he can seduce them, then impregnate them. His theory is that if the woman falls for him and is loyal to him, they are less likely to miscarry and lose the baby. The other agents basically drugged the historical women they had to get pregnant and then just did what we’d basically call Invitro.

He fits in perfectly with the time period because he’s charismatic, cunning, suave, and in control of himself in all ways… Until he meets Anne. She stirs him up like no one else ever has, and we get to see him flounder a bit because she gets to him. A Dom would fit into the Tudor era perfectly. (By the way, I believe Henry VIII was absolutely a natural untrained Dom—no question in my mind…)

Lissa: Very interesting! I never really thought of him that way, but I certainly can see that aspect of his character.

Does submission come naturally to your Anne?

Chanse: Yes, submission comes completely naturally to my Anne. She doesn’t have to think about it, she just does it. It’s who she is. If you look at history, almost everything this woman ever did was to please Henry, unless she felt he was asking her to do something that would offend God. For example, being his mistress. She would never do that. But everything else she did was to please him and for the good of the country. Many people believe she had her own agenda, but that’s not really what the facts point to. The fact she actually turned to Catherine of Aragon for advice on how to spurn Henry’s advances, which most people are unaware that these two women were ever on good terms at all, shows she cared deeply for him and felt a sense of honor and duty to him. A submissive woman takes into account the Dom’s well-being because she wants to serve only him. She wants to nurture him, take care of him, make his life better and make him as happy as possible in all ways. So, even though it seems counter to his happiness to seek out Catherine’s help, it’s in fact all for him. She worried for his soul, and in the long run, that’s the happiness that mattered to her most.

Lissa: Obedience was something she was trained to her entire life, as all girls were of the era. Do you think if she was raised in our modern era she would still have the same submissiveness to her temperament, or do you think it was something that came from the way she was shaped by her upbringing?

Chanse: I don’t think it was her upbringing. You can’t teach someone to be a submissive at that level she was. It’s something you either are or you aren’t. Just like you can’t really train a man who isn’t naturally dominant to be a Dom. It just doesn’t work.

Lissa: Certainly. I just wonder if the prevailing attitudes of her day created an environment where her natural submissiveness could flourish, and if she would have had more of a conflict with her nature in the modern day, where submission isn’t necessarily seen as a positive trait by society as it was then.

Chanse: Yes, it would on both accounts. It’s harder to be a submissive woman in our day because especially in the US we are expected to be out in the working world, totally in charge and independent, not needing a man, and being submissive is looked down and treated as being weak or inferior. In those days, yes, it was expected and the more outwardly meek and submissive a woman was, the more she was regaled and looked up to. Anne is interesting to me because the way she displayed her submissiveness was very different than most around her. She was what we call an alpha submissive. It means she’s a very strong willed personality, and she doesn’t give her submission easily. It has to be earned by going through a lot of rigors and passing tests if you will. Henry did that by the way he fought for her, so her devotion to him was unreal. On a whole new level.

Lissa: What do you consider to be the most erotic scene in the novel?

Actually, my favorite erotic scene I wrote in the story I had to change quite a bit and tone it down. I had written Guy and Anne having sex for the first time on top of her altar in her holyday closet. I asked a devout catholic friend of mine who’s in the BDSM lifestyle if that would offend them. They said yes, so I moved Guy and Anne to the floor, and he just fingered her instead.

So, instead of that scene, I’ll share my favorite one from the final published version. This is from chapter 9, the first time they make love and she loses her maidenhead:

“Lay back down. I shall have you now,” he said, nudging her down with his right knee.

Once she was flat, he crawled on top of her. “This is your consummation, Anne. It will never happen with the king. You are mine. This is our wedding night. In the eyes of God, when you lie with me and you are not married to another man, then you are bound to me.”

She gasped. “Do you mean to inform the king of this?”

“No. He will not be made aware, but I will know, and I will keep it in my heart. You are to do the same.” He lowered himself over her, and those soft but firm lips, similar to his cock in many ways, took hold of all her senses.

She lost track of time as his tongue stroked over hers, his hands brushed and teased her nipples.

His lips feathered down her neck, and then he sucked on her left nipple while his fingers were back inside her.

She was a little tender, but it was quickly muted by the way he touched some delicious spot inside her body.

“Oh. God. Oh. God,” she breathed with each masterful pump of his fingers.

She was increasing in wetness and insanity.

“You will come on my hand. Do not wait for my cock, sweetheart. Come on the next few strokes,” he told her, his lips then latching back onto her nipple.

He sucked hard, his fingers firmer, pushing deeper inside her puss, and then white.

Everything was awash with blinding light as she sparked to life and right as a yell ripped out of her throat, his tongue was inside her mouth, and something large penetrated her puss.

She made a squeaking noise at the back of her throat, but he kept pressing his way inside her body.

He removed his mouth off her when she whimpered.

“Christ, Anne—are you all right, sweetheart?”

She made a mewling, soft pleading sound.

He tried to pull out, but she gripped his shoulders and whispered, “No! Do not!”

“You are in pain—I crush your maidenhead further. I am too big, and your tissues have not had enough time to engorge and stretch on their own. I—” He growled and his head snapped back, his tendons stretched tight in his neck. “I was a selfish, impatient prick, rushing you. I am sorry.”

He remained motionless inside her, his legs shaking. How exerting was it to forbear? It seemed tantamount to holding up the palace on his shoulders like a Greek legend.

“Make love to me as I have begged. I am yours.” She brushed her fingers up his shoulder, past his neck and then stroked his jaw. It flexed under her touch.

“Not if it harms you,” he whispered, sliding his forehead across hers. “I vowed to you my cock would never cause you pain, and it already has. For that, I am a miserable man, unworthy of your forgiveness.”

“You have it.” She tipped her head up and brushed a velvet kiss across his lips. “Though you never needed it. There is no harm. I was only shocked by the intrusion. I have never felt anything like it, but you are exquisite. The most generous man with a beautiful heart almost as large as his cock.” She giggled softly.

“Now you tease my manhood? Well, fuck—I have to do it now.” He pulled back a few inches, then slid back in. “How is that? Is it too painful?”

“It is perfect because it is you.”

“Oh, sweet girl. You have my heart and soul. Must you take every last bit of my sanity, too?”

She smiled and wrapped her arms around his broad back. “Yes, that is all mine.”

“Good. Because I will take all of you as well. This”—he tapped over her heart—“is mine.”

His hips tipped up and he went as deep as he could go, eliciting a tight moan out of her.

“Feel good?”

“Yes, sir.” She wiggled under him. “Too good. I had no idea it would be like this.”

He kissed her and licked across the seam of her lips. “You expected pain?”

“Yes. A lot of it.”

“I am glad to dash that expectation to pieces.” He touched along her collarbone with his index finger like he was unhurried and had to know every inch of her body. “So soft, like the fine petal of a velvet flower.” He licked the spot, sucked for several seconds, and it was not until he pulled away that she realized he had just marked her.

She gasped. “Harry will see!”

“It matters not. I will have an explanation,” he said, then did the same on the other side, still making love to her all the while.

A moment later, he was curled around her so he could kiss her, stroke one nipple with one hand and encourage her clitoris to wet her more as he pinched it with his other hand.

She fought off making loud, animalistic cries of pleasure.

“Close, yes? You will come again for me. On my cock this time, and you will remember how this feels tomorrow when you are a little sore. You will remember the way your body took to being fucked by me.”

His words grazed over her lips with his breath.

He grunted, and his chest and stomach muscles corded and flexed. Was he going to expel his seed?

Oh God, this could mean conception.

Once more, as those thoughts were occurring, the white light of utter rapture took hold of her mind and she sucked in some air as her body unraveled and she writhed beneath him.
“Fucking gorgeous!” he whispered, then he pulled out, and her head tipped up. She watched as he unloaded his male seed all over her belly. “I will get you pregnant yet, but I do it with minimal sperm, to prove to that douche I can get you with child with less seed spilled inside you than he ever could, the incontinent prick.”

She wanted to ask about this strange accent she was hearing again, and the unfamiliar words accompanying it, but he was licking her puss, making her fall apart once more.

Was there blood? She had heard that women bled when the virgin tissues were torn.

Did he concern himself with that?

He gripped her hips, tipped her puss up and when she looked down, all she could see was the top half of his expressive eyes as they devoured her with silent words of insatiable lust and undying love.

He sucked and nipped, making greedy slurping sounds, and she fell once more, then was wrapped up in his arms a few moments later.

He warmed her skin with massaging fingers all over her body. His words of tender affection did not cease.

Her breathing calmed, her muscles were lax and all she knew was four words—I love you, husband!

Lissa: What particular challenges do you have as an erotica author who’s also a historical fiction author?

Finding an audience. I write for such a niche audience, it’s hard to find readers. Especially for my SHROAG series because it’s science fiction, historical fiction, has BDSM themes, and it’s an erotica all in one. That’s very unusual, so marketing it was complicated. I knew that going in, but I’d had this story rattling around in my head for years, and it was finally time to release it and let it go. I have a few more stories in this series in my head, but they aren’t screaming at me to get out like this very first one was. It was a relief to have finally written it.

Writing it isn’t hard at all. I take the passion I feel for and from these characters and create a world where they are completely honest and I show them from their everyday life into their secret world filled with fantasies and carnal delights. You can’t tell me that Henry VIII wasn’t a very passionate man in bed. There’s just no way. If you read his letters to Anne, you know he was a very sexual, sensual man.

Lissa: I’ve always gotten the impression that Henry was somewhat conflicted and frustrated in his desires. Maybe that plays into your theory that he was an untrained dominant, and today, he’d be able to find guidance that would let him express his desires in a healthy way.

Yes, that’s exactly what I think. If he had born today, he would not have been conflicted and frustrated at all about his desires. He would have found the means to express what was in his soul in a very healthy way, and he would’ve had the peace he deserved.

About the Author:

Chanse Lowell grew up in the desert southwest and still lives there with her children. She’s addicted to five things—her Daddy Dom, learning more about the BDSM lifestyle, reading erotica, writing erotica and sandwiches with a side of erotica to aid with digestion before she’s tied up in black silk ropes and teased endlessly by her Sir. She grew up watching programs with science fiction and historical fiction themes, and enjoys combining her three favorite genres, creating a new breed of novel with scifi, historical and smut sandwiched in the middle.

The last thing she ever thought she’d do was pursue her dream to be a writer since her family tends to keep her busy. But having recently entered the BDSM lifestyle and discovering she’s a submissive babygirl herself has opened her eyes to how few stories there are exploring the softer side of the lifestyle and how most inaccurately portray the Dom/sub dynamics in a monogamous relationship. She felt it her duty to share what she’s learned and adores about the BDSM lifestyle. Along with her new mission to write about the joys in this beautiful world of dominance and submission, she also loves chatting online with others with similar kinky interests and has advisers in the lifestyle that help make sure her stories remain true and don’t veer off into outer space. Although aliens probably enjoy kink, too, since they like to dress in rubber fetish-wear while traveling. At least that’s her argument for why her new genre she’s created is valid.

New Year's Reflection

by Sherri Hayes

The new year always seems to be the time for resolutions and reflection. It’s on the news, television shows, and of course, most of us do it with our personal lives in one shape or form. We may look back at what we’ve accomplished and then set some goals on where we want to go from here.

This last year has been one I don’t think I’ll forget anytime soon. On December 30th, 2010, my first novel was published through The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House. I had no idea what to expect. As with many first time authors the excitement overshadows anything else. I wasn’t thinking of sales or marketing. Just having a book I wrote in my hands was beyond belief.

Now, a year later, I’ve gotten my feet wet a little in the indie publishing world. I now have two full length novels published, a short Christmas story I wrote for my publisher’s very first holiday romance compilation, I just finished editing and am preparing for the release of my third novel, and am already in the middle of writing my fourth. It has been an extremely busy year, but a very fulfilling one as well. I’ve met many new people, made some really good friends, and have learned so much.

In the coming year, I have lots of goals I hope to accomplish. Some are personal like trying to eat better and do some type of exercise every day. Others are book related. One of those is finishing the sequel to my second novel, Slave (Finding Anna Book 1).

I’ve learned over the years that although I might not fulfill all the goals I set for myself, that’s okay. But, nothing with ever be accomplished if you don’t try. I think back four years ago when I started my first story and realize that if I’d never taken that first step my life would be very different right now.

Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.

At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.

Nearly eight years later, Sherri is the author of eight full-length novels, and two short stories. An Interview With Elena M. Reyes

Elena M. Reyes is the author of the Marked and Ardor series, as well as the tantalizing Teasing Hands. Today, she's releasing a companion novella Taunting Lips. Today, she sat down with Lissa Bryan for a chat.

.¸¸•.¸¸.•´¯`• (¯`•ღ•´¯)•´¯`•.¸¸.•.¸¸.

Lissa: It’s awesome to see another fanfic author succeeding in the world of original fiction. What do you think the fandom taught you the most, as a writer?

Elena: To believe in myself.

The love and support the fandom provides its authors is astounding…it builds you up, and pushes you past the fear of rejection. They taught me that my voice was unique enough to stand out in the crowd, and be heard. It’s humbling and exciting to have people follow your work and believe you are “good” enough to share your ideas with those outside our tightknit community. It’s because of them that I pursued this career and I couldn’t be happier.

What was your first piece of erotic writing, and what made you decide to take the plunge into that type of storytelling?

My first fanfic story was the cherry popper so to speak. ;)

Basically, I wrote what I thought was sexy—attractive.  While I enjoy a good romance like most women out there, I hate the concept of fading to black. I’m an adult and open minded. Show me the passion—the raw animalistic need that the main couple feels when being in the heat of intimacy. It’s what I like and in turn, love to write.

You’re releasing Taunting Lips on the 10th of December. It’s an accompaniment to the novel Teasing Hands. What made you want to linger with these characters for another story?

It all came down to the fans and their need for more. When I began to write Teasing Hands, it was meant to be a stand-alone, and still is in a sense. What I didn’t take into account when I hit publish was how the public would feel about that decision. They asked for more. My editors, and even the woman now in charge of my PR, wanted more. How could I say no?

I love these characters and enjoyed every second of putting their love story together.

I might even revisit them at some point in the future if the need wasn’t fulfilled with this novella.

What is the most erotic scene you’ve ever written?

The most erotic scene for me has to be the tattoo scene from Marking Him. It was the act of Talan putting his work on Maya, fulfilling his need to ink her with his mark. It was symbolic of their commitment and love. It was intense and sweet.

Marking Him Excerpt

“Bet my fucking life on it.” Talan groaned; his eyes zeroed in on my fingers parting my pussy lips. “There’s nothing sexier than watching you lose control. Back arched, eyes rolled into the back of your head … having your pussy walls locked down around my dick. It’s a beautiful pain.”
“Then why aren’t you taking me—taking what’s yours?”
“Because I have a goddamned appointment, who’s going to walk through that door and see you naked and waiting. Fuck.” His hands punched the door. “Get dressed, babe, please.”
“Baby, look around. Tell me if anything stands out.” Poor man, he hadn’t noticed the reality of this situation.
“Other than my fantasy of you, naked and in my chair becoming a reality?” Talan smirked; his eyes roamed my body from head to toe. “No. Not a damn thing.”
Dear God, how much more obvious could this be? “You really are dense.”
“What the he—”
I interrupted him before he fucked up this evening. “What part of Merry Christmas didn’t you understand?”
Talan’s eyes brightened. He got it. “You mean?” I nodded and smiled. “Fuck yes.”
“How? Esther booked . . .” he trailed off. It wasn’t hard to understand.
“I’ve wanted to do this for so long. Since that night you showed me my design all those months ago.”
Talan’s eyes softened at this. “So you waited for Christmas?”
“It felt like the right time. Special.”
“Thank you.” He breathed and pushed himself off the door frame. It still wasn’t close enough. “Are you sure you want this? My mark?”
“More than anything.” Staring up into his eyes, I took a deep breath and continued. “Wearing your mark, a peace of your ownership, will be an honor. I love you.”
Like a magnet finding his polar opposite, he launched himself at me. His arms grabbed onto my waist and pulled me toward the very edge of his chair. The file which had been placed at the end of his chair, fell to the floor, and scattered around his feet.
He hovered over me, caging me in, making me feel small and safe.
“Your beauty leaves me breathless.” Talan moaned. My legs wrapped around his waist and held him against me. Hard cock to needy pussy. “No one will ever love you harder than me. So complete, and with every fiber of what makes him a man. You doing this, for me … no fucking words could describe what I feel. Thank you.”
“I was meant to be yours; it’s only fitting that I bear your imprint. Love you.” His hungry lips were on mine the moment the last syllable left my lips. It was rough, passionate. His tongue sought out mine, entwined with it, and savored my taste.

What do you think is the greatest challenge an erotica writer faces and how do you try to meet that challenge?

Standing out in this genre is difficult. There are so many talented authors out there at the moment…it’s hard to find your niche and stand out in the crowd.  It’s exciting and hard, but the erotic community is ever growing. Pushing the boundaries. I love the honesty and desire for more the consumers demand for on a daily basis. There are very little limitations on what’s appropriate, so the skies the limit with what we can do.

To be completely honest with you, there is nothing I do to battle the competition. I’m me. Simple and honest and write what I know and love. I’m blessed to have a small fan base that supports me and enjoys my work.

What’s the next project you want to tackle?

Finishing the Marked Series.

There are two more books in this series and a spin-off with my villain as its main focus. To me, Janice is special, and I want her to see past Talan. My biggest wish for her is to find love and some redemption.

What do you think is the most erotic piece of music you’ve ever heard?

For me it changes constantly. At the moment I am really digging:

Take Me To Church by Hozier and Aminals by Maroone 5. They are on repeat while I write. The lyrics to both invoke such raw and primal carnal needs. Emotions and desires are visible and it moves me. They create scenes in my head that have to be put to paper. :)

Who is your favorite character out of everything you’ve written?

Hands down, Maya from the Marked Series. She’s feisty and fun, but loves Talan with everything she is. Her attitude and personality traits are mine.  Everyone that knows me, and has read these books, has joked about how easily they can see me saying the things she does in conversation.

What inspires you? How does a scene begin in your mind?

Life.

I take things from my everyday life and put it into what I write. A silly joke my husband made or a story a friend told me. Even what we watch on TV or where we live. It all helps to spark the creative juices which create the world my characters live in.

Last, but certainly not least… what’s the best part about being an erotica writer?

I think the best part of being any kind of writer is the reader’s response. A small message left on a social media outlet to tell you that your books made their day. A review explaining the emotions that ran through them as they devoured each line.  There is no bigger reward than the appreciation of the hours of blood, sweat, and sometimes tears you shed, while ignoring the outside world. That it was all worth it.

Burning For Her Kiss (Serpent's Kiss #1)

Beth Davenport has no interest in getting involved with another man for the foreseeable future. To say her last relationship ended in disaster would be a colossal understatement. The only reason she agrees to put in an appearance at Serpent’s Kiss, a private kink club in downtown St. Louis, is because her best friend, Nicole, won’t quit nagging her. When she walks in the door that night, the last thing she expects to do is meet a man who will have her reconsidering her ban on men.

As a captain with the St. Louis Fire Department, Drew Parker is used to being in charge. Excerpt from Need (Finding Anna, Book 2) by Sherri Hayes

He smiled warmly as he turned to leave for work Wednesday morning. I blushed as he grazed my cheek with his fingers and he told me to have fun with Lily. As I watched him leave, I traced my lips with my index finger. I could still feel the ghost of his pressing against them.

I closed my eyes as I leaned against the back of the couch and remembered last night. It had started out to be a kiss just like all the others, but then he somehow managed to turn me so that my legs were on either side of his. I was straddling him.

He’d encouraged me to touch him. Touch him in any way I wanted. My hands found their way into his hair.

I was unsure. While he’d never had a problem with me touching him, it was something that was very new to me. Ian hadn’t allowed much touching unless it was to service him. A few of the men he’d given me to had liked to be touched, but they always told me where to touch them and what to do. Ste . . . Stephan hadn’t given me instructions.

I remembered my hands in his hair as his fingers traveled up and down my back over my shirt. It was amazing how wonderful it had felt. How wonderful it always felt when I was in his arms.

My breath caught as I remembered how his hands had held tightly to my hips before he pressed me hard against him. I’d felt his arousal through the thin layer of his dress pants.

The moment I felt that unmistakable bulge of want and lust, I’d frozen. I’d felt the panic begin to take over.

He abruptly pulled away from my lips and he made me look at him. I could still hear his voice. Still feel his breath against my lips. “Not until you ask me, Brianna. Not until you ask.”

He’d held us both perfectly still until I’d calmed down. Then, he told me that he needed me to understand how much he wanted me and that he hoped one day I’d let him show me.

I hadn’t known how to respond, but he didn’t seem to need one. Instead, he proceeded to place soft kisses all over my face and then down my neck to a spot just behind my ear.

His mouth kept moving at an unhurried pace over every inch of exposed skin on my face and neck.

My face flushed just remembering it.

After a few minutes, I had started to forget about the part of his anatomy I could feel between my legs. The only things that I could think about were his lips. His tongue. And what they were doing to me. He always seemed to be able to make me feel things. Good things.

The problem was that even now, remembering, I had no idea what it all meant. Everything was very new. Although I liked it, I was scared.

No matter how hard I tried, my thoughts about the previous night continued throughout the morning. I tried to read, but after spending an hour looking at the same page, I stopped and set it aside.

There on the nightstand was the journal he’d given me. My journal.

I reluctantly picked it up. Its pages were fresh and new, just waiting to be filled, so I began to write.

Surprisingly, the words spilled out onto the page. Everything I’d been feeling. My fears. The strange reactions I had when he kissed me. How just having him there with me calmed me down. How different he was from Ian.

I was so caught up in my writing that I didn’t notice the time passing. When I looked up, the clock read eleven thirty. Lily would arrive in fifteen minutes. I threw the journal down on the bed and rushed to my closet to find something to wear.

Interview with Author Sherri Hayes

Note: This interview was originally posted on Under the Covers Book Blog on July 27, 2012 as part of the Need (Finding Anna, Book 2) blog tour.

What can we expect from Need, the second book in your Finding Anna Series?

In Need, Brianna is confronted with the reality that she’s not a slave anymore, that she’s free. She has to figure out, not just what that means for her, but for her and Stephan as well.

What research did you need to do for your Finding Anna Series? What made you think of writing a book based in BDSM?

I had to do quite a bit of research for the series. Staring out, I knew next to nothing about BDSM. I’d read a few online stories, but that was about it. I started with online research, and then as I continued writing, I met some people in the lifestyle, and would run things by them when I needed to. There is one chapter in Need where I spent almost eight hours on Skype with a Master going over every detail to make sure the phrasing and positioning was right.

Reading Slave and Need was very emotional, did you find it the same when you were writing it?

Yes, especially writing Brianna’s point of view. She makes me tear up often.

Brianna has survived a lot of trauma and has barely made it out intact, and seems very fragile. How did you know when to push her to do more with Stephan, without it looking like he is taking advantage?

It had a lot to do with Brianna herself. Aside from the initial kissing, Brianna has been the one to push more, in my opinion, than Stephan. He may have initiated things, but he’s also always willing to stop, step back, and give her more time or whatever else she needs. I think his willingness to do just that has also helped in it not appearing that he’s taking advantage.

How many books are you planning in the Finding Anna series and have you got it all planned out?

There are four books planned. I don’t outline my stories, however, I do have a rough plan in my head on what is going to happen in the next two books.

Will you ever be writing a book showing us Lily and Logan's story?

Doubtful. I love Lily and Logan, but they’re story hasn’t called to me like Stephan and Brianna’s.

Can you tell us what your plans are for the Daniels Brother's Series?

I just finished writing the second book in that series, Red Zone. It’s with my editor right now, and I’m hoping it will be out the first part of next year. Red Zone is Chris’s youngest brother, Gage’s story. I had a blast writing it. Gage stole my heart completely, and Rebecca is perfect for him.

Give us a sneak peek into the day of an author! Do you have a set schedule to write, or do you write when inspiration strikes?

My writing schedule varies depending on what else is going on with my life. I do, however, try to write at least one thousand words on most days, unless I’m editing, and then that takes priority.

Who are some of your favorite authors, and what books of theirs do you recommend we give a whirl?

I love Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series. Jamie Fraser has to be one of the best romantic hero’s ever written. With what said, Alexander from The Bronze Horseman Trilogy comes a close second in my opinion. I think both of these series are must-reads. I also happen to like Susan Andersen, but I prefer her earlier work. My favorite is Shadow Dance, which I believe was her debut novel.

Beats for the Sheets: Sexy Song of the Month (November)

It's November. The air is cool, the days are short. At least that's how it is here in the Northeast. It's a perfect time of year to lay in bed, snuggled under a blanket with someone you love (or with a sexy book to read!).

As I was preparing this post, it made me think of a scene from my novel The Righteous and The Wicked, which will be released in May. I thought I'd share it with you:

"Emma awakes, caged in Eric’s arms. They tether her in place, and she doesn't object to the sensation. Sighing with contentment, she snuggles deeper beneath the blankets with him, but then a horrible reality makes itself known.
It’s Monday.
She rolls over to face him, and his lips touch hers, though his eyes remain unopened. Emma giggles at his zealousness. The first thought Eric has is a wish to wake up to that sound from this day on. He squints at the clock, and then flops his head back down on the pillow, knowing Emma will have to leave.
“You should quit your job.” He yawns.
Emma gets up from the downy bed, leaving her place beside the remarkable, and gorgeous, half-naked man. She pulls his T-shirt off her body and tosses it at him. He holds it to his nose, breathing in her lingering perfume.
“And do what? Become your personal sex slave?” She teases.
“Yes. That is exactly what you should do. It’s your calling in life.” He teases her back, but then becomes serious. “You should call in sick. Stay with me, Emma.”
The way he speaks to her is so tempting. The way it sounds when he says her name . . . it’s like she’s never heard it spoken before, by anyone, until now. After several attempts at saying good-bye, she dresses and makes her way home through the blanket of the morning mist."

The song I've chosen for the month of November is "Sweet Avenue" by Jets to Brazil. This song is slow and sweet and the lyrics reflect the gratitude that comes when you have finally found the person who completes you. The person who brings out the best version of you. Everything shines brighter and everything is possible.
So snuggle up with the one you love, or a great erotic novel, and give this song a listen.

"Sweet Avenue" Lyrics:
tasting you in rain I walk down to the train
try not to look down
this day could some day be an anniversary
everything is light and sound
facing forwards going slowly wait for you to show me
where this train wants to go
living by the hour I stop for every flower
everything is soft and slow
now all these tastes improve through the view that comes with you
like they handed me my life
for the first time it felt right
thank you for making me see there's a life in me
it was dying to get out
holding you we make two spoons beneath an April moon
everything is soft and sweet
this cigarette it could seduce
a nation with its smoke
crawling down my tired throat
scratches part of me that's purring
softly stirring
I'm a captain of industry smoking famously
feet up on the windowsill
looking at all these trees I feel affinity with
everything so soft and still
budding at my fingertips
touching you I start to bloom
alive with trains and passing ships
soft and sweet along your lips now
I go "oh wow"
thank you for taking me from my monastery
I was dying to get out
with tears of gratitude
I like my latitude
cross town train to you
now all these tastes improve
through the view that comes with you
like they handed me my life for the first time it felt worth it
like I deserved it.

Sweet, right? Do you have a song you think deserves to featured as sexy song of the month? Leave a comment!

Beats for the Sheets: Sexy Song of the Month

It has been said that music is what feelings sound like. Music can inspire or excite. It can lull us into calm. It can make us feel sexy. It can incite desire. I know I'm not alone when I say the right song can make an intimate moment even more special.

Each month, I will be sharing a song I find erotically "inspiring". This month that song is "Hot Like Fire" by The XX.

I listened to this band while writing my erotic novel, THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED. The male and female voices are a perfect compliment to each other. The melody of this song is slow and steady. The lyrics reflect a desire to move beyond just kissing, but waiting can be the most delicious torture. Give a listen...

"You're hotter than a summer's day in California
You got me melting like a sundae, I want you
I know you've been waiting, you've been waiting a long time for me.
If you wait a little while longer this is how it'll be.

Oh, it's gonna be
Hot like fire.
Take you higher.
You can't resist,
Kiss, kiss, and kiss and kiss and kiss and kiss...

You shouldn't have said 'take our time'
I'll let you know when I'm ready, if that's alright
I won't keep you, I won't keep you, I won't keep you holding on
But if you wait on me I promise you it won't be long.

I'm gonna make you
Hot like fire.
Take you higher.
You can't resist,
Kiss, kiss, and kiss and kiss and kiss and kiss..."

What do you think? Will this song make your playlist? Do you know a song that deserves to be featured in Beats for The Sheets? Answers are welcome in the comments.

See you next month...keep it sexy.
